Step 3

Welcome to Step 3 of the 3-Step Masterclass.

Well done for getting this far.

So far, you’ve explored how to reframe your fear response and how to use your body to feel more grounded and ready to speak.

Now we’re going to work with something you already do every day: breathing.

When fear shows up, your breathing often changes. It may become faster, shallower or tighter, which can make your body feel even more alarmed.

The good news is that your breath can also help you send a message of safety to your nervous system.

Step 3 is all about using your breathing to support your body before and during speaking situations.

You’ll learn how to breathe with a little more awareness, control and calm, so that you can steady yourself when fear shows up.

Watch the video and give it a go.

Like anything new, it may take some practice, but you can start using this technique immediately.

Try it first thing in the morning, before you go to sleep or before a meeting, presentation or conversation where you want to feel more centred.

Notice what changes when you slow down your breathing.

Do you feel a little calmer?

A little more present?

A little more able to take the next courageous step?

This is not about removing fear completely. It is about giving your body the support it needs so that fear does not get to decide whether you speak.

I missed step 2!

Never fear - you can go back and access step 2 of the masterclass here.

Step 2

Your trainer - Helen von Dadelszen

I believe that everyone can learn to speak with more confidence, clarity and conviction.

Confidence is not a personality trait that some people have and others don’t. It is a skill that can be built through practice, support and small courageous actions.

Over the years, I’ve seen so many dedicated professionals with important work, missions, research and ideas hold themselves back because speaking feels frightening, uncomfortable or overwhelming.

I decided to do something about it.

As a communication coach, speaker, vocal coach and author of Courageous Action, I help professionals speak up, share their ideas and get their message across with more confidence.

My work combines my background in theatre, singing, recruitment, coaching, communication training and my own lived experience of fear around public speaking.

I know what it is like to feel your heart race, your mouth go dry and your body tell you to stop.

And I also know that fear of speaking does not mean you are not capable.

It means your body needs support, your message matters and your confidence can be built one small step at a time.

In this masterclass, I’ll guide you through 3 practical techniques to help you steady your body, shift your focus and speak with more confidence when it matters.
